Uko Valtenberg has been the Group Chief Information Security Officer at Eesti Energia since July 2023. Eesti Energia is an international energy company that produces energy in an increasingly environmentally sustainable manner and offers a wide range of energy solutions. Uko is responsible for the cybersecurity strategy and operations for the company's IT and OT systems, ensuring the protection and risk management of critical infrastructure.
With a strong military background, Uko served as the Head of the Cyber and Information Operations Center in the Estonian Defense Forces, where he gained unique expertise in national defense and cyber warfare. His most significant achievement during his service was the creation of the Estonian Defense Forces’ Cyber Range, transforming it from concept to full operational capability. Uko was also responsible for the development and management of NATO’s Cyber Range, a platform designed for cyber training and exercises to strengthen global cyber resilience. He actively participated in various NATO cyber exercises, providing technical support through the Cyber Range, and led twice the Estonian Blue Team in the internationally renowned Locked Shields exercise.
In terms of education, Uko graduated from the Estonian National Defence College with a degree in military leadership and also holds a Master's degree in Cyber Defense from Tallinn University of Technology.
Uko is passionate about cross-sector collaboration, knowledge sharing, and advancing cybersecurity education. His work in enhancing enterprise security, building secure digital infrastructures, and promoting industry-wide compliance has established him as a thought leader in both civilian and military cybersecurity.
